Took a deep breath in the mirror
He didn't like it when I wore high heels
But I do
Turn the lock and put my headphones on
He always said he didn't get this song
But I do, I do.

Cassie looked at herself in the mirror, her normally pale face was made up with a little blush and some light-blue eye shadow, her blond hair was pulled back in a half ponytail, all in all she looked pretty nice. Her magenta bubble-sleeve shirt was a little faded but it would do for a meeting at Madori’s, the local café down the street from her apartment, she’d gotten this apartment after her boyfriend had broken up with her eight months ago, the memories of Jackson telling her what not to wear and what not to listen to still rang in her ears. “Ah well, this should at least be a nice change.” She told her reflection as she slipped on her black high-heeled shoes that matched her black-as-night dress pants, slipping on her magenta head-phones, “Break Your Heart” by Taio Cruz played on repeat as she walked down the street to the café after locking her door, upon arriving she notices a few cars that she recognizes as several of her friends and some of the people that live in her complex. “Out for a bite to eat before the afternoon rush” she thought, shaking her head as she entered the café.

Walked in expecting you'd be late
But you got here early and you stand and wave
I walk to you
You pull my chair out and help me in
And you don't know how nice that is
But I do

As she entered the café she looked around for the so called “mutual friend” her friend Kayla had set up for her, but she didn’t see anyone. “I guess he’s late.” She thought sadly but then her green eyes caught a young man with slightly spiked brown hair and chocolate brown eyes standing up from his seat and waving in her direction, she walked over and smiled kindly at him.

“I hope I didn’t make you wait too long” she said blushing a bit, the boy grinned kindly at her. “No, I got here early so I could reserve us a table, it gets a little busy around this time so I didn’t want to have to make you wait for a table to open up.” He stood up from his chair and moved around the table to where she was standing and pulled out her chair for her, after she’d sat down, he pushed her closer to the table, and Cassie thanked him awkwardly.

And you throw your head back laughing like a little kid
I think it's strange that you think I'm funny 'cause he never did
I've been spending the last eight months
Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again.

You said you never met one girl
Who had as many James Taylor records as you
But I do
We tell stories and you don't know why
I'm coming off a little shy
But I do.

Soon they’re drinks had been ordered and brought to them, the young man introduced himself as Jason Blackstone and apparently had met Kayla at a concert about three years ago and they’d been friends ever since, although Jason had admitted to Kayla he’d like to meet a nice girl and date her, he never expected Kayla to set him up on a blind date with her best friend since middle school.

“So what kind of music do you like?” he asked, sipping his lemonade, Cassie blushed a bit and stirred her Diet Sprite a bit. “James Taylor, I have almost every record he’s ever made.” Jason laughed a little, “I like him too, but wowwie, you must be a fan if you nearly have all the records he’s ever put out.” He said with a smile. Cassie blushes and turns her head a bit, “is that a bad thing?” She asks shyly “No way,” Jason says the grin still firmly in place. “I think it’s kinda cute.” Cassie blushes even more.

But you throw your head back laughing like a little kid
I think it's strange that you think I'm funny 'cause he never did

I've been spending the last eight months
Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again

And we walked down the block to my car and I almost brought him up
But you start to talk about the movies that your family watches
Every single Christmas and I want to talk about that
And for the first time what's past is past.

After eating lunch, Jason paid for it and the two walked down the sidewalk to where Cassie had parked her car, she looked at Jason and decided to confess about her break-up with Jackson. “Jason, t-the reason I’m so shy and nervous around you is…” but before she could continue on Jason hushed her gently. “You don’t have to tell me anything about that, Kayla told me.” He then grinned at her “Say do you watch ‘The Flinstone’s Christmas Carol’ during the holidays? ‘cause my family makes it a point to watch it every Christmas Eve before bed!” His wide smile told Cassie that he was reliving something happy, for the first time in eight months…she laughed out loud. The warmth of the laughter could be heard for miles. “Yeah, we’ve got a collection of animated Christmas movies and we watch all of them on Christmas morning after we open presents!”

Maybe the past can finally be just that…the past.

'Cause you throw your head back laughing like a little kid
I think it's strange that you think I'm funny 'cause he never did
I've been spending the last eight months

Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again

Cassie got into her car and rolled down the window, she smiled kindly at Jason. “Thanks for the date, I had a really great time.” “So did I” Jason said happily, “maybe we can do it again sometime.” Cassie held out her cellphone, “Here, put your number in so if you ever want to go out again you can call me.” Jason gave her his cellphone and the two swapped numbers, once they’d finished programing in their number and adding their smiling face as the picture, they returned the other’s cellphone and Jason leaned on the window frame. “You really are a wonderful girl Cassie, I’m glad we met today.”

“Me too Jason, me too.”

Jason gave a little sigh and then stared straight into Cassie’s eyes, “Would it be okay with you if I kissed you at least once?” her asked softly, he’s voice seemed a little nervous but his eyes seemed sure of what he wanted to do. Cassie blushed a bit but nodded, soon soft lips were on hers, Jason’s lips were warm and firm, but the kiss was gentle and surprisingly tender. Unlike Jackson who had been cold and his kisses meant nothing, Jason’s kiss made Cassie feel as though she’d been set free from a dark cell of despair and unhappiness, when the two parted from the kiss, slightly breathless, Cassie smiled at Jason, he smiled back at her.

“Are you free next Friday night Cassie? I’d like to take you out to dinner if that’s okay with you.”

“Sure Jason, I’d like that a lot.”

But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again
